Last week I mentioned in Genevieve’s Third Birthday blog post about being their Forever Photographer. I’ve had a couple families say it to me over the years, and I really love it, so I thought it was time to blog about it.
Being a Forever Photographer means that rather than just doing a “one and done” session with a client, I’m with them for several sessions, basically throughout the course of forever. I’ve had a couple clients go with the Grow With Me package, where I photograph Baby’s Newborn, 3 Month, 6 Month, 9 Month, and First Birthday sessions. But then I’ve had other clients, like Genevieve and her sweet family, that have customized and built their own Grow With Me collection. Genevieve in particular has done Newborn, Six Month, First Birthday, Second Birthday, and now Third Birthday! You might also remember Alissa and Josiah. They were my absolute first wedding ever, way back when in 2012, and now Alissa is one of my best friends, and I’ve photographed their family in ALL of their life stages; from Phinehas Drake’s baby session, to little Avery Truth when she was born and her First Birthday, even up to Alissa’s oldest daughter Destiny’s senior photos! Alissa and Josiah have been with me so long, they’ve seen the blog change over a couple times, and I can’t even link back to some of their posts haha!
The reason I love being a Forever Photographer for my clients is that I get to see their families GROW! I get to see where life takes them, and hear updates on what happened between sessions! Photography to me is such a personal art form and such a unique job; I’m literally inserting myself into your life, your family, even sometimes your home! I want to build that relationship that will last years and years, and I want to share my life with you as well! Documenting people’s lives and love stories is such a privilege, I don’t want it to just be a transactional relationship, I want it to be a personal relationship. Why?
Because that’s what helps me get the most genuine images.
If someone is coming into your house to take pictures of your newborn baby… to pose her, and move her, and hold her in between shots… you don’t want that person to be a stranger. You don’t want to feel uncomfortable in ANY way. First, because that’s your brand new baby, and second because it will come out in the photos. I want to capture the JOY in a family welcoming a new baby home, I want to capture the mischief between siblings as they interact together. I want to capture the REAL LIFE moments that happen in your home, because those are the moments that you’re going to want to hang in a silver frame over the mantel. Those are the moments you’re going to buy the collage frames for and put one photo from each of baby’s Grow With Me sessions in.
That’s why it’s so important to me to be a Forever Photographer <3
